Thanks for posting this. I’m considering this job. I’m 61 yrs old. My kids are grown and gone. I lost my wife to cancer two years ago. I was a sub mail carrier when she got sick. Trying to find a job now.
Just impossible. A friend of mine owns a trucking company. He has two big jobs now. Both are 800 loads from Fontana to Long Beach and from Fontana to San Diego. First is one hour one way. The second is 2 1/2 hrs one way. I ran the Fontana Long Beach trip this morning at 2:30 am. Not so bad.
If I can make 2000 a month net I’ll be ok. I’ve got my teacher’s retirement and my wife’s teacher retirement coming in. My short fall is the loans I racked up while she was sick and we both didn’t work.
I don’t think the interstate is for me. And I wonder if I can be the assertive driver that this job requires. I can not go potty for several hours. Did that when I delivered mail. I am a cautious driver. Not timid but cautious. Can I learn to be assertive or is that instinct. I understand when you say that when the driver needs a lane he needs a lane. There is no being courteous to oncoming drivers. He’s got to have the lane to make the transition or exit or what ever. I have no training other than one ride along with a extra long load. hello i am a truck driver and am ready to get out of the truck again…. i am a licenced cdl instructor and have drien for 14 years.. i want to do the pilot car thing now… i have done heavey haul for several years and have a g3 rating…. i live in georgia and want to start a pilot buss…. can you direct me in the right direction
