In Laredo

I made it to Laredo today.  It was 103 degrees! We load tomorrow and hopefully get out on the road.  Our Texas route will take us almost 1100 miles to get to El Paso.  As usual, Texas gives us the scenic tour.  The permit seems to have some errors, so maybe we will get a [...]

On My Way to Laredo

I am in San Angelo, TX, tonight.  Tomorrow I head on over to Laredo.  Our load is loading on Wednesday.  Then we head to California.

Late Start-Early Stop

I am helping move some OD loads from the southern edge of NM to the Arizona/New Mexico line.  Due to some permit problems, we were an hour and a half late getting started.  Then, we spent an unscheduled two hours waiting for some other issues to get clarified.  The bottom line was that we had [...]

Route Survey Lottery

For those of you who have done route surveys, you will understand the use of the word lottery.  Sometimes, it is just the luck of the draw on which route will work out. Today I completed one route survey and began another one.  My second survey of the day is for the exact same load [...]

Surveying for a 20′ 6″ load

I am in Tucumcari, NM, tonight.  I am trying to find a route for a 20′ 6″ high load through eastern and northeastern NM. Any time you have a load more than 17 ft high, it can be a challenge, and this certainly is no different.  I underpriced this job, without question. At least I [...]

Busy Day!!

Today, I did two mini’s and half of a route survey.  By noon today, I had completed the two minis.  Between the two, a customer called about a survey for a 17ft 6 in high, 215 thousand pound load.  At first glance, it looked like a “piece of cake”, but after checking out all the [...]

I am home today

I made it in about 10 PM yesterday.  It always feels good to get home and sleep in my own bed. On the way down, I tried to visit with Alice Eisenhower of Alice’s Pilot Cars in Colorado Springs, but unfortunately she was busy.  I DID stop in Raton and had lunch with John Owens [...]

En Route to Nevada

We are in Kingman, AZ, tonight…on our way to norther Nevada.  We’ve got another 700 miles to go, give or take. The rear escort brought a trainee today.  I think that is great!  I really think his new boss is doing the wise thing by actually training this young man before putting him in a [...]

Busy day!

I dropped a load (temporarily) near Gallup, NM.  We can’t leave until Monday after the driver gets his Arizona permit.  We are en route to western Nevada. After leaving that load, I came back to Albuquerque to perform a route survey for a 23 foot wide load going into Colorado on US 285.  I thought [...]

Moriarty, NM

I am in Moriarty, NM, tonight with a load that is going to Nevada.  Tomorrow we will drive about 150 miles and then shut down  until Monday.  In the interim, I will be working on another project to which I committed.
